Access to your personal area and to all services on the Portal das Finanças requires a registered account and authentication.
You can sign in using:
- Autenticação.gov (Digital Mobile Key – Chave Móvel Digital - CMD), or
- Your Tax Identification Number (NIF) and a password
If you do not have a password, you must create an account before signing in.
Sign in or Create an Account
If you have an active digital mobile key - CMD:
- To register (new users):
- Go to Portal das Finanças, select Registar-se,
- Choose Autenticação.gov.pt, and select Chave Móvel Digital.
Authenticate using your PIN plus the SMS/app code. You will be redirected to the Portal das Finanças
- Fill in the form with your personal details, define an access password, and click Registar
- To sign in:
- Go to Portal das Finanças, select Iniciar Sessão,
- Choose Autenticação.gov.pt, and select Chave Móvel Digital
Authenticate using your PIN plus the SMS/app code. You will be redirected to the Portal das Finanças and logged into your personal area
If you have you NIF (new users without CMD or users preferring a postal password)
- To register (new users):
- Go to Portal das Finanças, select Registar-se
- Fill in the form, including your NIF, personal details, and a security question (choose something easy to remember to help with future recovery)
After submitting, your password will be sent by post to your registered tax address (ensure your address is up-to-date, as the password cannot be sent by email or to another address)
- To sign in:
- Go to Portal das Finanças, select Iniciar Sessão
- Log in with your NIF and the password received by post
Immediately change your password and validate your email/phone number for future recovery.
CMD activation for foreign citizens:
You may request CMD at an Espaço Cidadão in Portugal or at a Portuguese consulate in the EU, using your passport or residence card.
Password Recovery
If you forget your password, you can reset it online.
- Go to Portal das Finanças, select Iniciar Sessão > Recuperar Senha de Acesso
- Choose one of the recovery methods:
- Escolher senha (choose new password): CMD via Autenticação.gov
- Recuperar Senha (recover password): Answer the security question you defined during registration, and choose one of options:
- SMS code (if the phone number is validated)
- Request a new password letter sent to your registered tax address
If you do not have CMD or recall the security question and answer, you must request a password cancellation by email.
- Send an email to portal-senhas@at.gov.pt:
- Subject Line: Cancelamento de senha (Password Cancellation) NIF [Your NIF]
- Email body: Include the following details:
- Your NIF
- Your Full Name
- Your Tax Address (Domicílio Fiscal)
AT will send an email confirmation that your access password has been cancelled
- New Registration Request: after you receive the email confirmation, you must perform a new password request
- Go to Portal das Finanças, select Registar-se
- Fill in the form, including your NIF, personal details, and a security question (choose something easy to remember to help with future recovery)
After submitting, your password will be sent by post (CTT) to your registered tax address (ensure your address is up-to-date before requesting the letter, as the password cannot be sent by email or to another address)
