Update your tax address

Tax add​res​s

Your tax address (domicílio fiscal) is the place where you habitually reside.

Keep your address updated. All correspondence from the Tax and Customs Authority (AT) is send to the address registered in your tax file. If you are considered non-resident in Portugal and have appointed a tax representative, your tax address corresponds to your representative's address. 

If you change your address without a change of tax residence status, you have 15 days to report this change to AT.

Change of address - How to submit a reque​st

If you are a foreign citizen and wish to change your address, without changing your residency status, you can request a change of address:

    • Online:
      1. Log in to Portal das Finanças (Iniciar Sessão​),
      2. Navigate to Dados Cadastrais > Morada > Entregar Pedido de Alteração
      3. Fill in the form
      4. Submitt the request. The change of address is only finalised when you receive the letter in the post with a code that allows you to confirm the change of address
      5. Navigate to Dados Cadastrais > Morada > Confirmar Morada​
      6. Enter the code you received. The change of address is complete. 
    • In Person: At a local Tax Office (Serviço de Finanças) or Citizen´s Shop (Loja do Cidadão). You must schedule an appointment in advance.

Another person may request the change on your behalf if they present a power of attorney granting them the necessary authorization.

How to schedule an appoint​​ment

To change the tax address, you can book an appointment with a Tax Office:

    • Online:
  1. Access the Portal das Finanças
  2. Navigate to Contactos > Atendimento por Marcação
  3. Select Para pedido de NIF ou alteração de morada para pessoas sem cartão de cidadão​
  4. Choose:
    1. Assunto: Identificação
    2. Subassunto: Alteração de morada-cidadão da UE e Espaço Económico Europeu or Alteração de morada-cidadão País Terceiro
    3. Observações: Provide your identification document number

 
    • By phone: Call (+351) 217 206 707 (CAT – Centro de Atendimento Telefónico), on working days from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
